Voluntarily land registry registration
If you bought your property before 1998, your property title may not be registered at HM Land Registry, so it has no record of who owns it.
This doesn’t mean there is a problem with your ownership, but it can lead to complications on a future sale as well as making you more at risk from some types of property fraud.
Even if you do not have to register, registering voluntarily:
• Gives you proof of ownership.
• Helps protect your land from fraud.
• Makes it easier to change, sell or give your property away in the future.
You can register property yourself or get a solicitor or conveyancer to do it for you.
