Recently there have been sensational reports of celebrities developing Noise Induced Hearing Loss in the course of their employment.
Brian Johnson, lead singer of the rock band ACDC has been advised by doctors not to tour any more or risk “total and permanent hearing loss”. Experts advise that the sound at a rock concert can be between 120 db (decebels) and 150 db and this level can lead to severe hearing loss, especially in the case of Mr Johnson who will have performed over 100 concerts lasting often 2 hours or more wearing no form of hearing protection.
In addition, a renowned violinist is suing his employer, The Royal Opera House, for prolonged exposure to noise from participating in concerts and rehearsals, where he was required to sit in front of the brass musical instrument section. It may appear his exposure to noise could have often peaked at levels up to 130db.
If you experience situations where you are having to turn up the volume on the TV or have difficulty understanding speech in groups or in the presence of background noise then you may have early symptoms of Noise Induced Hearing Loss.
