Applebys Solicitors Head of Industrial Disease Raises over £700 with a Marathon Golf Day
Head of Industrial Disease and Hearing Loss at Applebys Solicitors, Ben Mitchell, has completed a marathon set of four complete rounds of golf in one day on behalf of the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.
Starting at 6am at Barnsley golf course, Ben and three colleagues completed their first round of 18 holes. Further 18 rounds were completed at Wooley Park course in Wakefield, Waterton Park course and at Wakefield City course finishing at 10.15pm! As the sun set Ben was forced to use flourescent balls at the final three holes to complete the mammoth task.
It is estimated that Ben walked over 22 miles complete with a full complement of 11 clubs, bag and accessories which he carried all the way round. In total Ben took 397 strokes to complete the four courses a fantastic effort despite the odd visit to the bunker! Ben would like to thank all the golf clubs used for their hospitality and assistance.
Ben commented “It was quite a challenge to complete four courses in one day and a battle against time to finish before it became too dark to see!” He continued “Despite the warm conditions it was wonderful to raise some much needed funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity who provide a wonderful and much needed service to so many people”. As a part of Ben’s work as an industrial disease solicitor Ben commented that “I have acted for many clients who have been a victim of asbestos related cancers and have seen first-hand the care that this charity provides in support, especially towards end of life care.”
